Meet the Gymnastics Team

Tony Benson – Club Owner and Head Coach

Tony Benson
WAG High Performance Coaching Accreditation and MAG Intermediate Coaching Accreditation 
Tony has been involved in gymnastics for over 40 years as a coach and club manager. During this period he has achieved success in many aspects of the industry. He has coached gymnasts from pre-schoolers through to Level 10, Junior International and has produced numerous state and national representatives. Tony has coached both NSW and Australian Teams. Prior to opening Sydney Gymnastics Tony also managed two of the largest and most successful gymnastics clubs in NSW.  He has also held positions on regional, state and national committees, contributing to development of gymnastics in NSW and Australia. Under the experienced leadership of Skye and Tony Sydney Gymnastics has become one of Australia’s premier gymnastics clubs growing in membership and achieving outstanding competitive results.

Skye Benson – Club Owner and Head Coach

Skye Benson
WAG Advanced Silver Coaching Accreditation, Bachelor of Science (Exercise Science), Master of Teaching (Primary) and WAG Advanced Judge
Skye has been involved in gymnastics for over 30 years, initially as a competitor and then as a coach, judge and administrator. She has coached gymnasts from recreational right through to Level 10 and has coached both NSW and Australian representative teams. Skye has held positions on regional and state coaching and judging committees and is currently a member of the Gymnastics Australia WAG Commission and NSW Sports Management Committee. Skye was also a full time primary teacher for 8 years.

Skye has been instrumental in driving the success of Sydney Gymnastics. Her experience, hard work and desire have seen the club grow in participation and competitive programs succeed at all levels. A testament to the success of the club has been Sydney Academy winning the overall National Club Championships title in 2014 and 2015. Sydney Gymnastics has also been awarded the NSW WAG Club of the Year in 2013 and 2014, NSW WAG Levels Coaching Team of the Year in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and Skye and Tony were awarded WAG National Levels Coaches of the Year in 2014.

Ken Benson

Ken Benson
Ken has had a long and successful involvement in the gymnastics and leisure industry spanning more than 45 years. He has been one of Australia’s most successful coaches and administrators and has gained many awards for his achievements, including being named the inaugural Australian Coach of the Year in 1998. In 2004 Ken was awarded an OAM for his services to Gymnastics and the YMCA. Even after 40 years of hard work, Ken’s love of coaching gymnastics has never declined and he is still regarded as one of the most enthusiastic and experienced coaches in NSW.

Glenda McElduff

Glenda McElduff
Glenda started coaching gymnastics in 2012 and is a qualified Intermediate Coach. She is also a level 1 netball coach, qualified swim instructor and a previous childcare educator. Glenda is also currently studying a Certificate III and IV in fitness. Her hobbies include physical culture, crossfit and bodybuilding. In 2013 Glenda was named World Gym International’s most inspirational member. Glenda has 2 daughters, both of whom did competitive gymnastics when younger, with the eldest daughter competing at Level 10 during the peak of her career whilst also being a member of the Australian Aerial Skiing Team.

Amy Culhane

Amy Culhane
Amy started competitive gymnastics when she was 5 years old and finished her career in 2012. She is an accredited Intermediate Coach and is currently completing her Advanced Coaching qualification. During her high school years she was involved in cheerleading and competed in state and national competitions. Amy has many interests that include taking photos.
She also has completed a Certificate IV and Diploma of Photo Imaging. She enjoys playing sport, exercising, water skiing and travelling. She is currently completing a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation.

Hannah Forrell

Hannah Forrell
Hannah started competitive gymnastics at the age of 7 and competed at nationals 2 years in a row, finishing in 2007. She then began diving, competing in national competitions for two years as well as participating in the Pacific School Games. She is an accredited Intermediate Coach. Hannah completed a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation and is currently studying at the University of Western Sydney doing a Bachelor of Social Science majoring in peace and development. She has become an advocate for Destiny Rescue an organisation that recuses children from the human trafficking industry and has travelled to Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia with the organisation.

Tayla Konestabo

Tayla Konestabo
Tayla started competitive gymnastics at the age of 9, her competitive career at 18. In 2008 she was the All-Around Level 7 Australian National Champion as well as the National Champion on Vault, Beam and Floor. She went on to represent Australia at the International Levels Challenge in Perth. She is an accredited Intermediate Coach and is currently completing her Advanced Accreditation. Tayla has completed a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in marketing at Macquarie University.

Nicole Drysdale

Nicole Drysdale
Nicole was involved in recreational gymnastics at Sydney Gymnastics and also danced for 13 years. She started coaching in 2013 and is a qualified Intermediate Coach. She also holds the position of crew trainer at McDonalds. Nicole completed her HSC in 2014 and is currently studying a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) at ACU.
